Saint Christophe I - Dartmouth
Update on Saint Christophe
The Dutch salvage company, Multraship, has arrived in Dartmouth with the 55m work barge 'Seadevil' and work now commences to salvage the Saint Christophe.
The salvage operation is being organised by the vessel’s insurance company and Dart Harbour continues to cooperate with all parties. It is anticipated the Saint Christophe will be lifted as soon as possible after the barge’s arrival with the barge expected to remain in Dart Harbour for four days.
Once the vessel is re-floated, a decision will be made on the onward management of the vessel. Dart Harbour remains in contact with the vessel’s insurers to establish this.
Dart Harbour’s statutory function remains that of monitoring and minimising any potential pollution and continuing to protect the River Dart environment and Dart Harbour remains ‘open for business’ for visitors and berth holders.
Background
The 23m French fishing vessel, the Saint Christophe I capsized in the early hours of March 10 whilst alongside the South Embankment, Dartmouth. The crew of five – all French nationals - were rescued, safe and unhurt. Dart Harbour staff have assisted with stabilising the situation.
A local Notice for Mariners remains in force notifying the position of the vessel and how it is marked.
