Britannia Royal Naval College – The Facts at Your Fingertips
KEY AIMS
• BRNC has trained Royal Navy officers in Dartmouth for more than 147 years
• Its mission is to deliver courageous leaders with the spirit to fight and win
CURRENT ACTIVITY
• The college continues to deliver officer training to Royal Navy and International Officer Cadets, of which there are 351 this term, across all phases of training
• The college supports international training as a key feature in Defence Diplomacy
• The college supports through-life command, leadership and management training through the RN Leadership Academy
• The college is partnered with the local community through the University of Plymouth and VT Flagship, employing 185 locals. The partnerships also include Dartmouth Academy and South Devon College as well as links with the Dartmouth Regatta Committee, local yacht clubs, the RNLI, the Dart Harbour Authority and local civic society
• The college employs 354 staff and has an annual turnover of 1,000 students
• The college supports local events including the Regatta, Remembrance Ceremonies, charitable donations and outreach programmes through the provision of manpower, donations, fund-raising, and use of the Volunteer Band .
FUTURE ACTIVITY
In line with Government guidelines, this year the college will be doing the following:
• Supporting Dartmouth Academy through use of facilities, specialist advice in leadership, hosting the Year 11 Prom, hosting the Academy’s Sports Day
• Supporting South Devon College students in a number of areas such as hospitality and potentially apprenticeships with our contracting partners
• Supporting the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta with manpower, boats and organisation
• Supporting local artists by using the College as a source for “inspirational art” through the Britannia Society for Music and the Arts
• Holding Volunteer Band concerts that raise money for local charities
• Holding a Capability Demonstration day to local influence groups to clearly show our purpose
• Supporting the National J80 Sailing competition
