Ship Inn
Spotlight - Colin Lang
Sitting in the bar of the 15th Century Ship Inn, it’s easy to imagine pirates, brawls, pewter tankards and clay pipes.
These days the pub is known for its cosy interior, sun drenched terrace with river views, delicious menu and selection of good wines and real ales. The reputation for food is so good that booking is essential.
Kingswear’s history is all around you as you sip your beer – it seems the walls have absorbed the stories and characters of the village’s past.
Behind the bar is landlord Colin Lang who, with his wife Heather, has run the Ship for the past five years. The couple hail from Brixham originally, and for many years Colin was a sales promotions manager for EMI.
So why take on a pub? “My family had been involved in pubs for years and I always knew it was something I wanted to do,” Colin said.
“We love Kingswear. The people are so friendly and the village reminds us of how Brixham used to be when we were growing up. And with a pub like this and a view like we have who wouldn’t be happy?”
