Rockfish - The National Fish & Chip Awards 2013
Awards, books, new restaurants and trains...
Congratulations to Mitch Tonks and his team at Dartmouth’s RockFish Seafood & Chips which has won the award to win if you are a fish & chip restaurant - BEST INDEPENDENT FISH & CHIP RESTAURANT IN THE UK announced at the SEAFISH UK AWARDS ceremony in London in January 2013. There is really tough competition for this award and follows hot on the heels of The Seahorse winning BEST UK RESTAURANT in the Observer Food Magazine awards just 4 months ago.
Also in January, Mitch Tonks transformed Paddington Station into a restaurant dining room to launch his new Little Black Book of Seafood, a collaboration with train operator First Great Western encouraging people to try out some of the best seafood in the country.
If that’s not enough, Mitch has also been busy helping First Great Western launch its new Pullman Dining Car service on the Paddition to Penzance train, the UK’s only remaining silver service train restaurant.
Mitch has worked hand-in-hand with First Great Western to deliver a menu with a truly West Country origin.
From fillet steak direct from the farms of Somerset to red gurnard harvested from the sea off the Devon coast, all food is cooked on board by highly skilled chefs allowing you to rediscover the pleasure of eating freshly prepared food while the train takes the strain. The Pullman service is available on two evening trains from London to the West Country and two lunch time trains from the West Country into London, five days a week.
Finally, Mitch and Mat Prowse are also busy planning the launch of a new but consideranly bigger Rockfish in Plymouth in June. Representing a £0.5m investment, the restaurant will be a 200-seater next door to the National Marine Aquarium.
