Rebecca de Mendonça at White Sails Gallery
White Sails Gallery is proud to announce that their exhibition for Galleries Week will be a solo show by the up-and-coming Exeter based artist Rebecca de Mendonça.
With a background in theatre design Rebecca made her name, as an artist, painting portraits of dancers and performers with The English National Ballet. Having moved to Devon three years ago her most recent work has been inspired by some of the life and energy of Devon's coastline and countryside. Her striking portraits of children and families at play on the beach or exploring the rock pools have a life, movement and spirit about them which is undeniable.
Then, when she turns her attention inland, to the heart of Devon, her versatility captures the dynamic combination of horse and rider, or the powerful energy of the equine form.
“After exhibiting Rebecca's work here for several years” said the gallery's co-owner Adam Edsall “this exhibition is long overdue. Her work has been increasingly successful here and she is really beginning to make a name for herself. People are enchanted by the delicate depiction of her characters, and the sense of joy and wonder in her work always makes you smile.”
The exhibition runs from Saturday 24th May for one week and there will be a special preview evening on Friday 23rd between 6 and 9pm. All are welcome.
