Last year the Dartmouth Town Council agreed to additional Saturday markets being held in the Old Market Square. Jane Willis wrote a proposal for three new Saturday markets. The Council accepted the proposal. Hence the new Saturday markets began! The Old Market Square is a wonderful venue for these new events. The idea was to promote the Old Market Square and get more local people to come back to visit the market, enjoy refreshments from the Dart to Mouth deli, the Market Café and to browse around the shops in the Square.
Jane Willis of The Crafted Emporium, Jo Smith of Vintage Velvet and Anna Sewell from Chantilly Lace, organise these monthly events.
The first Saturday of every month, is the Table Top sale. This brings local people together to sell their unwanted household items. The third Saturday of the month, a Vintage/Flea Market will take place. We need more sellers before this event can start. If anyone is interested, please contact Jane Willis at the Crafted Emporium, Old Market Square.
The first Artisan Market took place in March and was a great success. Local Artisans displayed their handcrafted items, which included jewellery, leather goods, ceramics, artwork, sculptures and many more crafted goods.
The Artisan Market will take place on the fourth Saturday of the month. The market starts at around 9am and finishes around 3pm.
This will be a regular event and is an ideal platform for local Artisans to display and promote their products. Many of the Artisans will attend on a regular basis. There is a waiting list now but as regular exhibitors are away, other Artisans will take those places. So there will always be more crafts to see.
