Thalie Andersen writes: "I started my basic upholstery training in Dartmouth with Julian Crowe many years ago. I left Dartmouth to do a traditional upholstery apprenticeship with Roy Coles Ltd in Wiltshire. I was only supposed to pop away for a year then come back. Fourteen years later here I am.
My training was varied and amazing. I spent nine years with Roy Coles I started at the bottom and worked my way up until I had gained enough knowledge too work with historical antiques and wonderful antique fabrics.
Roy’s clients were as varied as the work. From royalty, high end designers, stately homes, Saudi princes to the little lady down the road. We even worked on antiques for super yachts. My work has been sent to the far corners of the globe and it has had to be of an exceptionally high standard. There are examples of some of my work on facebook under Andersen’s Upholstery.
My workshop is in the Market Square, Dartmouth where I undertake both private and commercial work.
My interest and passion is mainly in traditional upholstery. I use traditional techniques and materials such as hessian, horsehair, coiled springs and calico. I can make bespoke headboards in a myriad of shapes and designs. There are times when a little modern upholstery and materials are required but all work is undertaken with expert care and attention to detail.
Customers are always welcome to visit the workshop, phone or email, to see work progress or for honest, friendly advice.
Services range from a simple recover to totally rebuilding a piece of furniture. No job is too big or too small."
