A small friendly group whose aim is to research and record the history of Dartmouth and surrounding villages, and to make this information available to the general public.
Members pursue and record any aspect of local history that interests them, or just support other members’ research. All that is needed is enthusiasm and a methodical and careful way of working. Computer skills help but are not essential.
They have also published some 38 booklets on the area’s commerce and activities, famous sons (and daughters), notable buildings and a host of other topics. Recent booklets were on Thomas Newcomen , Bayards Cove and a history of Roman Catholicism in the town. We also publish shorter historical articles in the Dartmouth Chronicle.
The Group meets monthly on the first Monday at 10.00 am at the Baptist Church, Townstal. Prospective new members are always welcome, there is no membership charge. Any proposals for new projects will always be considered.
