Dartmouth Green Partnerships was formerly known as Dartmouth in Bloom. It is a voluntary, non-profit-making charity which relies on donations, sponsorship, fund raising events, and grants from councils, local residents and businesses. The name change reflects the priorities of the Royal Horticultural Society: horticultural excellence, environmental responsibility and community participation.
We work with many groups in Dartmouth who are keen to preserve and enhance the town’s green spaces, such as the Community Orchard. The aim is for more sustainable planting as well as seasonal displays. We also campaign for better appreciation of our green spaces and protection of trees in the town.
Dartmouth is proud to be part of the RHS Britain in Bloom campaign, and to be a frequent Gold Award Winner both locally and nationally.
Dartmouth Green Partnerships is responsible for the planting and maintenance of a number of areas throughout the town (see pics below). These include:
- the town entrance with wild flower beds by the roadside
- the anchor bed on College Way, newly planted in 2014
- the triangular bed and the boat ‘Michael’ at the Higher Ferry and other floral boats in town
- the circular beds, borders and the potager outside the Community Greenhouse
- the hanging baskets, mangers and troughs around the Boatfloat, in Bayard’s Cove and along Zion Place and the South Embankment.
- Planters along the riverfront from the Higher to the Lower Ferries – these are recycled from previous use in London along the Mall and in the Millennium Park. The troughs starting at the Higher Ferry were new in 2014. More were added in 2015.
- We also assist SHDC gardeners in Royal Avenue Gardens and maintain the capstan beds along the North Embankment.
