You'll join our team of volunteers who lovingly look after the grounds - thought to have been landscaped by Capability Brown – and experience the beautiful Sharpham Estate at first hand.
We've been working to preserve that landscape, whilst ensuring that future planting works not only for our eyes and hearts, but for birdlife, insects and other animals.
This year we will focus on restoring and replacing tree guards in the orchard, as well as general maintenance of the fruit trees. The tree-guards prevent deer, cattle or sheep from eating the bark of newly-planted trees, helping them to a better start. The day will be led by Ambios with support from Trust staff and volunteers.
Sharpham’s Winter Tree Care Day is free and will take place on Sunday 12th February 2017, from 10am to 3.30pm.
Please bring your own working gloves, waterproofs and wear sensible clothes and sturdy footwear for working outdoors.
There will be a range of tasks to choose from: some heavy and some lighter. We will provide all the tools, so if you’re interested in getting involved just turn up on the day – no need to book.
We will supply a tasty campfire soup round the fire with spiced apple juice (sourced from Sharpham’s orchards) to keep volunteers warm and refreshed and as a thank-you for giving your time.
The team will meet by the Sharpham coach yard at the back of Sharpham House – please park in the car parking spaces nearby. The way will be signposted on the day. There are some steep hills on the Estate, so please get in touch if you’ve got mobility issues.
The day is not suitable for very young children. Before you set out, check the website and our social media for announcements if the weather is terrible.
Join us to help care for and conserve the wonderful trees on the Sharpham Estate.
