The Torbay Singers are proud to present Bach’s magnificent Mass in B Minor this March 25th at St Mary the Virgin Church in St Marychurch. We will be joined by an orchestra (leader Brenda Willoughby) and soloists from the Royal Academy of Music. Our Musical Director, Tina Guthrie, will conduct. The concert starts at 7.30 pm and tickets cost £12 for adults and are free of charge for children and full-time students.
Bach’s Mass in B Minor is one of the towering achievements of the choral repertoire. Loved and admired by many, it has become a work that many choirs aspire to. The Torbay Singers approach Bach’s masterpiece with a sense of enjoyment, relishing the dancing rhythms and contrasting styles. Following our successful workshop on this work in January this year, we have already had the pleasure of sharing the splendour of this work with others. We are now delighted to be returning to St Mary the Virgin Church in St Marychurch.
“... as we all know from the Mass in B minor, there is no other composer before or since who can match the sheer thrill and zest of his festive music: the way it makes your spirit soar – vigorously martial one moment, transcendent the next, giving us an inkling or glimpse of how the angels might sound if only we could hear them play”
- Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
