For those who have just discovered SHAF, the Arts Trail is one of the biggest art events in the SouthHams. It takes places annually during the second half of October, covering the week before and the week of half-term. Each year approximately 60 SHAF artists participate in the Trail, exhibiting and selling their work in 18+ venues across the South Hams.
SHAF membership is extremely diverse so the Arts Trail provides an opportunity for visitors to view and buy paintings, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, lampshades, mosaics, hand-turned wooden items and furniture, felt, paper and textile art, photography, basketry, prints (woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, collagraphs, etc.), metal work (medals, pewter art pieces), collage, and much more ... as well as cards, including early Christmas cards!
As diverse as the artistic talents of SHAF members are the ways in which SHAF artists work and where they choose to exhibit their work. Some artists work on their kitchen tables, others in purpose-built studios; some work alone, others in an artists’ collective. So visitors to SHAF Arts Trail venues will find some artists exhibiting in their homes and studios, others in galleries, exhibition halls, and even pubs!
Following the Arts Trail also provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the glorious South Hams and discover places (including cream tea venues) you never knew existed.
Arts Trail brochures are available each year from September 1st
