NTLIVE YOUNG MARX
Rory Kinnear is Marx and Oliver Chris is Engels, in this new comedy broadcast live from The Bridge Theatre, London and directed by Nicholas Hytner.
Young Marx is set in 1850 when Europe’s most feared terrorist is hiding out in Dean Street, Soho. Stone broke, restless and decidedly horny, the young revolutionary is a dangerous combination of intellect, razor-sharp wit and childlike emotional illiteracy.
Creditors, spies, rival revolutionary factions and prospective seducers of his beautiful wife all circle like vultures. His writing blocked, his marriage dying, his friend Engels in despair at his wasted genius, his only hope is a job on the railway.
Young Marx is the opening production at the Bridge Theatre in London (residency of the London Theatre Company), a new commercial theatre founded by previous National Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner and executive director Nick Starr.
