If we're lucky (as in previous years) we'll see one of the colourful kingfishers that regularly fish along the Sharpham stretch of the Dart Estuary or perhaps another Grey Seal will drift up or down the river.
Or perhaps we'll find some of the estuary's more secretive birds in the reed beds - such as Reed and Sedge Warbler, but also resident Cetti's Warbler and Reed Bunting - busy feeding and putting on weight before their southward migrations.
Clues to the birds' identities will be given by bird expert Mike Langman.
Says Mike: "All sorts of birds use the Dart estuary to rest and feed. August is a great month to see anything from Little Egret families with their young recently flown the nest, and fast-growing Shelduck chicks shovelling through the mud to find tiny snails to eat."
Another speciality of Sharpham is its bats which should be emerging from their daytime roosts as it gets dark.
This event costs £12 for adults and £5 for children.
