Jan’s brilliant, vivid sailing paintings have featured in group shows at Dart Gallery since 2009. Launching on 21st October this year, the gallery will be showcasing their largest ever collection of her striking work in a solo show that will take over the whole of the lower gallery and will feature over 40 new works.
Jan's canvases capture the beauty and drama of sailing at sea. A keen sailor, she takes every chance she can to get out on the ocean and race. It’s little wonder that her work so brilliantly captures the spirit and excitement of racing a yacht at sea.
Jan works mainly in acrylic, painting with speed and intent. A striking palette combined with a fluid, energetic technique creates powerful work. Every painting is instantly recognisable as her signature style. Jan hopes her work “portrays that amazing feeling when you are out on the water, free of land based worries (unless you are too close!) and doing your very best to be at one with the boat and the elements”.
Jan particularly loves to sail off the Devon coast and considers Dartmouth her spiritual home. Keep an eye out for familiar local spots in many of the canvases featuring in the collection.
If you’re a fan already or new to her work be sure to not to miss this unique show. Jan will be attending the First View at Dart Gallery to talk about her paintings.
‘Offshore!’ - A solo show of new work launches at Dart Gallery with a First View from 6.30pm on Saturday 21st October.
