August, time for the little village of Frogmore to host its big regatta on the creek!
For a small community, Frogmore Village puts on a great show with its annual, family friendly regatta on the creek. Quite possibly a unique regatta at that, as you don’t need a boat to take part. The event is a much loved fixture in the South Hams summer season, with many visitors and locals returning year after year – last year a record 1800 people enjoyed the fun. So, what’s on offer?
On and in the water are raft races, rowing races, duck races and glorious mud races. The regatta is also hosting for the first time a race in the local series of stand up paddle boarding competitions. The adjacent Pool Farm Meadow is home to an ever popular fun dog show, classic car display, tugs of war (men’s, ladies’, kids’ sides, enter on the day), family sports and races, swing boats, donkey rides, side shows and a whole host more. New this year, come and see the beautiful birds of prey collection.
Dartmoor’s “Banned from the Moor” entertains with lively, toe tapping folk music and the occasional sea shanty, and maintaining the watery theme, Plymouth Morris Men, inspired by that City’s naval history, provide yet more revelry with their traditional Morris dances and hobby horse. Tai Chi and Zumba demonstrations are there for you to watch or even join in! And if it’s all a bit to frantic for you, then why not rest up on a rustic hay bale and simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Food and drink is well catered for with hog roast wraps, bangers, burgers and Devon cream teas. Why not polish this off with a trip to the Pimms bar or The Globe Inn’s beer tent for some well-deserved liquid refreshment? Chin chin and see you there!
Entry £3.00 adults, £1.00 children, under 5s free. Plenty of free parking in the field.
Head for Frogmore Village, east of Kingsbridge.
