It isn’t long now, until the Dartmouth Regatta 175 celebrations start! We will continue to focus on our town, the community and our biggest asset: the river.
The week long celebrations, incorporating the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta from 29-31 August, will kick off on Saturday 24th August with the Royal Regatta Tennis Tournament, the Swimming Gala, as well as some sailing events. New for this year will be our new look Regatta Family Funday in the Royal Avenue Gardens, packed full of new and exciting family friendly activities plus the ever popular dog show.
In the evening the Bandstand area will be transformed into the Regattas First ever Silent Disco! If this wasn’t enough excitement for one day, the Regatta Kon-Tiki Raft Race is BACK!!!
A feast of rowing takes centre-stage on the river Dart with the South West Rowing Championships also running during the week. The Embankment in Dartmouth is a favourite place from which to watch the events, simply pick your spot to view and cheer your team on!
The Royal Dart Yacht Club, Dartmouth Yacht Club and Dittisham Sailing Club, organise the sailing events which are spread over the eight days of Regatta of which there are over 50. Other events on the river are the Illuminated Boat Procession, the Classic Craft Review and Steamboat Rally.
Many more sporting attractions are planned: the Regatta Road Races, a one-day golf tournament at the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club, the Regatta Bowling Competition and an evening Darts tournament held at the Conservative Club in Dartmouth.
Every year the Regatta hosts a variety of entertainment. There will be music in the Bandstand throughout the week, and on Coronation Park, we have 2 extra special open air evenings planned for you: a return of the Sundowner on Wednesday 28 August and a ‘Royal’ Proms in the Park on Friday 30 August with the park turning into a family fun zone in the daytime with the best view in Devon. On Thursday the 29th August we are thrilled to be at the BRNC for our Regatta 175 Celebration party, think canapés, HM Corp of Drums and jazz in a fantastic setting. All tickets are available from our website.
Our street market has had a major overhaul – now the Royal Regatta Shopping Parade –all situated right on the riverside, a picture perfect location. As well as this new shopping area, our Regatta Craft Market will again be in the Old Market Square.
Family friendly, there are a number of activities to enjoy from the Crabbing and ever popular competition, Spot the Oddity. The Newfoundland Dogs will yet again show their superb rescuing skills plus a fly boarding display from the superb James Prestwood – he has something ‘super’ planned! And don’t forget our amazing firework displays! Be ready to ooh and ahh...
There is so much going on you had better buy a souvenir programme, packed with all the details and timings of what we hope will be a memorable Regatta 175.
