The popular Dartmouth Fishing Festival returns for its 56th year with top prize of £500 for the best overall specimen fish in the 3 day competition.
The competition offers a wide spectrum of fishing from shore, river and boat. Wreck fishing is a separate section.
"There’s a substantial prize of £500 is offered for the overall winner, and loads of other prizes to keep you interested from rod prizes to more cash prizes, over 25 cups and trophies in all. The competition is open to all ages and sexes from experienced anglers to novices and prizes to suit."
“This year the committee decided to bring forward the date slightly in order to try and get better weather and tides so that the fishing would be more enjoyable. The dates chosen for the competition hopefully will mean that the tides are not too strong and it should help, weather permitting, with a good return of fish for the competition.
“To register for the festival you can come down to the Dartmouth Angling and Boating Association in Oxford Street in Dartmouth and sign up between 7:30pm and 9:30pm on Friday, September 29th or, alternatively you can sign up on each morning of the festival between 8:00am and 8:30pm. The way you fish is totally up to you, one day or all three days, from shore one day to wreck the next, the choice is yours.
“Again our main sponsor is Marchand Petit Estate Agents who sponsor the Town Cup and £500 for the best overall specimen fish of the three day competition and we have local businesses sponsoring all the other prizes and sections, from Hookz on Line who provide the rod prizes to Town Parks Fishing who sponsor the River section.
“If you want more information or a chat come down to the Dartmouth Angling and Boating Association on the Friday night before or you can call Colin Brown our chairman on 07734 468901 or alternatively Nigel Rees on 07977 517767 who is the honorary secretary, you will be very welcome.”
