DARTINGTON SINFONIETTA
Leader: Mary Eade
Conductor: Simon Capet
Guest soprano: Catherine Hamilton
Debussy: L'apres midi d'un faune
Wagner: Wesendonck Songs
Mahler: Symphony No. 4
Join us for the eagerly anticipated launch of the Dartington Sinfonietta, a new professional orchestra formed with the purpose of serving Devon and Cornwall with classical performances of the highest calibre.
For their innaugural concert, the South West’s newest classical ensemble provides new perspective on three large-scale symphonic masterworks through revelatory new chamber versions.
“I love chamber versions of big orchestral works,” says Capet. “These versions are in no way inferior to the originals. They simply offer different perspectives on the composers visions. I see these reproductive-transcriptions as the musical equivalent of the art of the master engraver who revisits a great painting using only black lines on white paper; his insight and skill can give us a totally new perspective on the original.”
To hear live the music of Debussy, Wagner and Mahler is to embark on epic, emotional journeys. And when the Dartington Sinfonietta present their REDUX versions the intimacy of the Great Hall will add spine tingling immediacy to the experience.
