A study of the unique contribution made to English architecture by Robert and James Adam. Robert Adam undertook the Grand Tour, taking in most of the great Roman sites in the Mediterranean region. The lecture looks at how he sued the wealth of Roman material from his notebooks to create some of the most splendid interiors to have graced the English country house. The lecture dwells especially on Kedleston, Harewood Osterley, Syon, and Newby.
