Our Rio medal winners were:
Giles Scott in the Finn Class – Gold Medal.
This was Giles’ first Olympics after missing out on a place at London 2012 to Ben Ainslie. Giles only lost (by lost I mean came 2nd not 1st!) one regatta in 3 years in the lead up to the Rio Games.
Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark in the 470 Womens Class – Gold Medal.
Hannah and Sas were also silver medallists in London 2012. They have sailed together for years but as well as spending all their time on the water together they are also best friends off the water.
Nick Dempsey in the RS:X Mens Class (windsurfing) – Silver Medal.
Nick has also won a bronze and a silver medal at two previous Olympics and this was his fifth Olympic Games in total – in all making him the most decorated mens windsurfer of all time.
Shirley Robertson OBE - Compere for Team Volvo Appearance
Shirley is well known as a CNN Mainsail presenter and also BBC Sports commentator. She has just returned from Rio where she has been reporting on the sailing events throughout the Olympics. Shirley Robertson OBE made it to the history books by becoming the first British woman to win two Olympic Gold medals at consecutive games, Sydney and Athens. She now continues as a Volvo ambassador, inspiring youth sailors and new participants into the sport of sailing.
