Candlelit Dartmouth 2017, 24/25 November
FESTIVE FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY
Candlelit Dartmouth kicks off the festive season starting on Friday 24th at 4pm with the Christmas Market centred in the Town’s Royal Avenue Gardens. Musicians and entertainers will add to the seasonal atmosphere both in the Gardens and around Town.
A choir and musicians from the BRNC Volunteer Band will lead carol singing around the Christmas tree prior to the official switch on of the town’s Christmas lights. Then at 5pm Santa arrives by boat with his sack of goodies for the waiting children. Festivities continue until 8pm with music and street entertainment.
On Saturday, the excitement continues! The market, music and entertainment all resume at 10am. The fabulous Crafter’s Market runs from 10am till 4pm in the Old Market offering a large eclectic choice of beautiful handcrafted gifts. All the goods are handcrafted by crafters and artists locally and this year we are being joined by artisans from Cornwall, Wales and Belgium. Santa will once again be in his Grotto in the Flavel Hall which will also host seasonal workshops for both adults and children. Workshops can be booked in advance via the Flavel or pay on the day.
For animal lovers, there will be the popular “best dressed Christmas dog” competition at the Bandstand and there are even rumours of an appearance by Emma’s festive donkeys!
Many shops will be open late during the weekend and - with so many independent retailers in town – it’s an ideal opportunity to purchase those special Christmas gifts.
The weekend finale begins at 5.30pm on Saturday when the traditional lantern procession leaves the Old Market. Hundreds of willow and tissue lanterns, made by local school children and adults in specially organised workshops, create an amazing spectacle as they are paraded through the Town’s historic streets.
Around 6.00pm the lantern procession will arrive in Royal Avenue Gardens. For this final hour of Candlelit Dartmouth there’ll be a real party atmosphere and you can be sure of some great live music for one last Candlelit boogie.
There will be a free Park and Ride service from the top of town so don’t miss it!
