Autumn Tea Festival
Saturdays and Sundays from 9 - 24 November, 11am - 4pm
Who doesn't love a hot cup of tea, especially after a wander around Greenway's autumnal garden? We love it so much that we decided to throw an Autumn Tea Festival.
It just so happens that the plant used to produce tea is a camellia, something the garden team at Greenway know a lot about. Earlier this year the first ever Camellia Festival was held, to celebrate spring and that the garden has been accredited an 'International Camellia Garden of Excellence'. It seemed only right that after we celebrated the camellia's beauty in spring, we celebrate it's flavour in winter.
These festivals have been part of a year long celebration throughout 2019, as this year marks the ten year anniversary of the National Trust caring for the house at Greenway.
Did you know...
The majority of the worlds tea is made from the leaves of two varities of camellia. The Camellia sinensis sinensis; a chinese variety with small leaves and a higher tolerance for colder weather, and the Camellia sinensis assamica, native to the Assam region in India.
These two clever camellias can produce black, dark, oolong, yellow, green and white tea, all depending on the way the leaves are processed. Why not read on and find out what's happening during the festival?
Tea for two please
In the Barn Cafe at Greenway, we've thrown open the doors to the tea world and have an extensive menu for visitors. There'll be flavoursome black teas, warming green teas and fragrant oolongs. And nothing goes better with tea than a sweet treat, so we've got you covered with cakes, tea loaves, scones and biscuits picked especially for the festival.
For a more indulgent afternoon, why not treat yourself to a limited edition High Tea? The 'Boathouse High Tea' features Salcombe crab, tea smoked trout and a tea soaked fruit loaf. Or if you're tempted by more traditional flavours, why not try the 'Vintage High Tea' with classic sandwiches and a lemon drizzle. There's even a menu for little ones with tasty bakes and a babycinno.
