Dartmouth is, it’s fair to say, a bit of a foodie haven. Ever since the arrival of Joyce Molyneux and the Carved Angel in the 1970s, Dartmouth has offered something a bit different for food lovers.
Now there is a plethora of good places to eat, suiting every taste and every pocket. The town’s Annual Food Festival in October has gained an enviable reputation over the last decade for being the ‘best small food festival in the country’ and the town’s eateries have taken this prestigious event and let it inspire them to even greater heights.

The Seahorse
This restaurant, started by award winning restaurateur Mitch Tonks in 2008, has become something of a food mecca for those visiting the town. Its stunning menu, relaxed surroundings and great service have been praised by everyone from Valentine Warner to the very hard to impress Giles Coren, and last year the seafood specialist won ‘Best Restaurant’ at the Observer Food Monthly Awards. The Angel
The Angel reopened in 2018 with the kitchen headed up by Elly Wentworth, the runner up of 2016 Masterchef - The Professionals. The focus is on championing Devon produce with meat from native Devon breeds like Ruby Red cows and Greyface lambs, and fish sourced from nearby markets. Elly's menu is modern full of intriguing combinations and this young and ambitious chef is well on the way to making The Angel a destination restaurant.
