Kendricks Restaurant, Dartmouth
Housed within one of Dartmouth’s finest buildings, Kendricks opened in 2000 and has quickly gained a reputation for excellent food at good value using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
The building in Fairfax Place began life around 1580 as a family home for a wealthy Dartmouth merchant and to this day retains many interesting features, including a fine example of Tudor oak paneling dated from 1595 (in the first floor restaurant).
The restaurant was named after the current owners Bob & Georgia Kendrick who travelled the world for several years, previously working in many restaurants during their travels gaining knowledge, experience and ideas that they then incorporated into Kendricks.
When you walk into Kendricks, the atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed and the staff are friendly and attentive, always striving to keep standards high and to have fun at the same time. Many staff in the kitchen and in the restaurant have worked at Kendricks for several years. During this time, the formula has been finely tuned. The team has succeeded in making Kendricks the most exciting evening venue in Dartmouth! Many patrons comment about how helpful and cheerful the staff can be.
The menu is varied and ranges from enticing salads, char grilled steaks, sizzling fajitas to succulent ribs and much more. It’s been described as ‘Californian’ in concept. The interesting menu is designed to suit all tastes with excellent steaks – their specialty – as well as fresh seafood. Above all, Bob & Georgia take pride in the consistently high standard of the food they serve.
There are always special dishes available - see their specials board. There is a good selection of very reasonably priced wines - a good house wine is £13.95.
The staff will happily serve ‘walk-ins’ but due to its popularity, it is wise to book beforehand particularly on a Friday or Saturday evening. You can happily spend all evening there or be out after a good meal in only an hour.
Children are welcome in the upstairs restaurant and private parties of up to 20-30 can enjoy their meal here in privacy. In the main restaurant downstairs, they can easily fit in multiple tables of 10 or so. It can be quite a party place – ideal for Christmas and New Year celebrations, so book early!
Kendricks is open every evening throughout the year, except Christmas and Boxing Day – open possibly more days than any other restaurant in Dartmouth!
Kendricks is a fun place that provides good ambience, mouth-watering food at realistic prices and efficient yet friendly staff. Their focus is on keeping their locals loyal rather than chasing the tourist dollar!
