More restaurant awards for Devon’s Dynamic Duo
Rockfish, the fish and chip enterprise set up by restaurateurs Mitch Tonks and Mat Prowse has been shortlisted in the National Seafish Awards every year since its inception 3 years ago and this year is in the top 3 for the Good Catch sustainability award and the Multiple Operator award, having won the UK’s Best Independent Fish and Chip restaurant award earlier this year.
The Seahorse restaurant already ascribed as the Best UK restaurant by the Observer Magazine, the best seafood restaurant and the best regional restaurant by the Good Food Guide in the last year has this week been listed at number 31 in the UK’s top 100 restaurants, jumping up from a placing of 53 just last year, and in the company of some big names in the restaurant world including Tom Kerridge, Heston Blumenthal and Raymond Blanc.
Winning awards so far from the food journalist centre of London can be tough but the 40 seater restaurant by the coast has put Dartmouth on themap as a destination for foodies and was also included in the recent Kenwood food bucket list of 100 things any serious foodie must do.
Rockfish has 3 sites, a restaurant in Dartmouth and a separate take away and a restaurant in
Plymouth, the latter opened in June this year and is located in what could be argued is the most ideal spot for a restaurant keen on its sustainability credentials, sandwiched between the National Marine Aquarium and the Plymouth Fish market.
Mitch Tonks & Mat Prowse said
“We worry about the little details every day and it is times like this that remind us why we do it and why we love it, that it means something. It is a real testament to the hard working team at the Seahorse and Rockfish and behind the scenes who all care as much as we do about what we do”.
