BROWNS HILL ARTS
Browns Hill Arts is a new studio and arts space in Dartmouth, run by the artist Helena Clews BA(hons), PGCE, MA. Whilst exhibiting across the UK, Helena has always dreamt of creating her own space in Dartmouth to paint, exhibit, teach and experience art and it’s happened. Browns Hill Arts offers a unique chance to see a professional artist at work, attend a workshop to learn about new techniques or materials and support Devon artists.
Helena is an abstract painter who is constantly intrigued by how visual information – such as colour and gestural mark making – can allude to something that is difficult to define or identify clearly as a particular thing in the world, whilst at the same time being recognizable aesthically as an ‘abstract’ painting. Having trained at Central Saint Martins, London, she has managed to develop her own distinctive style, which is now continually changing with the influence of the sea and views of Dartmouth.
Helena is extremely pleased to join the already well-established art scene in Dartmouth and is particularly excited to be involved with Dartmouth Galleries Week in May. It will coincide with Browns Hill Arts launch party and open with her first solo show in Dartmouth. The exhibition, Colour on the Line, will exhibit new paintings and will aim to question the viewers' perception of Landscape painting in an exploration of colour and line. Don’t miss the launch party, Friday 23rd May 6pm-9pm.
