Around Kingswear - March 2015
As the magazine goes to press our roving Kingswear correspondent, Mike Trevorrow will be travelling around the globe so it falls to us to give you a quick update on the latest goings-on in Kingswear.
Defibrillator update
Back in August you may remember that we mentioned the plans to raise money to install a community defibrillator in Kingswear. We are now pleased to report that thanks to the generosity of local residents, South Hams Council, Kingswear Regatta Fund and fundraising by Dartmouth Holiday Homes the target has been reached and the defibrillator has been ordered! We hope that it will be installed by Easter with awareness and CPR training following shortly after. If you would like any further information or would like to log your interest in CPR training do email us at kingsweardefib@gmail.com
Jubilee Playground Project
The playground project at Jubilee Park is gathering pace and when planning permission is confirmed fundraising will begin. If you'd like to hear more about the project or get involved check the website at www.jubileeparkplayground.co.uk
Kingswear Golf Society Rolls Again
Before the war Kingswear had its very own golf course now long gone. More recently Kingswear also had a golf society run out of the Ship Inn which legend has it was a victim of its own success.
Now a new golf society is being launched with the objective of bringing fun and social golf back to the village with a series of outings arranged over the season. The first is to be played locally at the Churston Golf club on Wednesday 29th April and then in June at the lovely parkland course at Stover on Tuesday 9th. The society HQ will again be the Ship Inn where landlord Colin, as part of his 10th anniversary year celebrations, is the welcoming host for the 19th hole food and drinks.
So whether you are a regular, occasional or used to play many years ago you are welcome to join the fun. For more details please contact our Hon Sec Colin Holmes a colinholmes39@gmail.com or sign up at the Ship.
Kingswear WI
The WI will be flexing their muscles in this their centenary year and the Kingswear branch started off on a romantic note hosting their Valentine dinner in the Village Hall. Themed “An Italian Evening”, it was held in aid of village charities. The village hall was artistically decorated in Italian colours. An Italian style, three course meal with a glass of wine was much enjoyed. Great raffle prizes were donated by local businesses. Entertainment was provided by the singer Donna-Marie Hughes who sang Italian songs.
On March 18th there will be a ‘Gardening in the Spring’ event, with a spring flower arrangement competition. On April 15th, there will be a members’ travel exhibition of holiday photos.
