KingfisherArt Inspired By The Dart - Wendy McBride
“The light on the water is one of the themes of my paintings. I enjoy the constantly changing light and mood, whether it’s the sea or a river. So the Dart is a perfect subject for me. It’s on my doorstep, too, which is wonderful; from Totnes to Sharpham is a local walk I never tire of. The Dart is an interesting river to paint because it is tidal, so it never stays the same.
That’s something I try to capture in my work, the ever-changing seasons and light of our countryside. The deciduous trees on the river bank provide endless variety, as well. After a walk I have to rush back to the studio and get it down while it’s all fresh in my mind. Working in pastels helps because it allows me to work quickly.”
