"Entering Dartmouth" by Paul Riley
“I have long been fascinated by what the River Dart must have been like a hundred years ago. I refer to a bygone era when there were schooners delivering fruit, classic yachts sailing for pleasure, great working fishing boats and paddle steamers carrying passengers and catering for tourists.
My current exhibition is a result of my love for boats. I have sailed up the river Dart hundreds of times and loved every inch. I recently acquired a classic boat which I spent many hours restoring. Doing that and having a chance to sail with the Trinity Sailing Foundation made me wonder what it must have been like sailing on the river during a bygone era.”
Paul’s most recent exhibition “A Tale of Two Rivers” combined his recent work about the tale of the river Dart in a bygone era with images inspired by the river Vitava in Prague, the home river of his wife Tina. Some of his work can still be viewed at the Coombe Gallery in Foss Street, Dartmouth 01803 835820 or at Coombe Farm Gallery in Dittisham 01803 722352. www.coombegallery.com
