Dartmouth and District flower club was founded over 50 years ago and is affiliated to NAFAS [The National Association of Flower Arranging Societies]. Its aim is to encourage all aspects of floral Art through lectures, demonstrations, classes, exhibitions and competitions.
The Club currently has over 40 members. They meet on the first Thursday nearly every month, except August, in the Flavel main hall 2.00 for 2.30pm.
About three meetings during the year are practical workshops to help and encourage members to work with natural plant material making creative and artistic designs. At other meetings a range of experienced flower arrangers and florists demonstrate a variety of designs to members.
Every two years or so the club holds a show to which the public are invited. This year the show is on April 23rd in the Flavel Centre Dartmouth to be opened by the Devon and Cornwall Area President at 10.30am. The show title is “By the Dart” and they hope that many members and friends will enter to make it a spectacular show and also come along to lend support. Schedules are available at the Flavel or from Club Committee members. They are especially keen to encourage youngsters to enter and have two classes especially for them. – For those up to and including 11 years of age the class is “a creature from the deep” and for those 11 to 15 years of age “sea fever” an arrangement of flowers in a crab bucket.
